CODE
OF ETHICS FOR COACHES
LUTHERVILLE-TIMONIUM RECREATION COUNCIL
I hereby pledge
to live up to my responsibilities as a recreational youth sports coach
by following this code of ethics.
• I will do
my best to make youth sports fun for my players.
• I will place
the emotional and physical well being of my players ahead of any personal
desire to win.
• I will treat
each player as an individual, remembering that there can be widely different
levels of physical and emotional development for children in the same
age group.
• I will provide
a safe and healthy, drug, alcohol and tobacco free environment for my
players.
• I will organize
practices that are fun and challenging for all my players, using coaching
techniques that are appropriate for recreational youth sports.
• I will lead
by example, demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to all my players.
I will display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat.
• I will ensure
that I am knowledgeable in the rules of each sport that I coach. I will
teach these rules to my players.
• I will abide
by the rules of the game in letter and spirit. I will demonstrate respect
for the integrity and judgement of officials, even those who are less
experienced.
• I will remember
that I am a youth coach, and that the game is for children and not adults.
Let
the players play,
Let the coaches coach,
Let the officials officiate,
Let the fans cheer ENTHUSIASTICALLY.
