Coaches: Members of the Baltimore-Chesapeake Rugby Football Club & Parents of players.

Volunteers: Adult participation as coaches, managers, and administrators are essential for any successful youth program. Parents are welcome at all times!

The LTRC Youth Rugby Team (known as the Vipers) is a member of the Potomac Rugby Union Youth League (PRUYL) which has expanded from 6 clubs in 1999 to 14 clubs in 2000.  We expect more than 25 teams throughout the Baltimore-Washington area in 2008. The PRUYL is for kids, boys and girls, 16 years old and younger. At present, matches are Non-Contact (two-hand tag) as developed by the USA Rugby Football Union (USARFU) Youth Development Committee (YDC) in 1995.  This allows kids, again boys and girls, 6 to 10 years old to compete together, kids 11-14 years old to compete together and 15 & 16 year olds compete together. For kids over 11 years old, there will be age-grade tackle rugby in U13, U15 & U17 age groups.

How Do You Play Youth Rugby?
The rugby ball is shaped like an oversized football.  Teammates will run with the ball in their hands, passing the ball among themselves, looking to run between or around the opposition to score in the end zone.  The skills learned are similar to soccer, lacrosse, and basketball, only you don't dribble with the feet or your hands or carry the ball with a stick. The game is Two-hand tag only.  Participants are grouped according to age, size and skills. Practices will be held Mondays & Wednesdays at Meadowood Regional Park; games are on Thursdays and Saturdays.
